Everyday is a New Beginning!
New Beginnings Community Development Center, Inc. is a not for profit 501 c 3 organization founded in 1995 by Rev. & Mrs. Oscar Lewis of Riviera Beach.. New Beginnings is the organization that operates the Pleasant City Beacon Center.  We were organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, providing services to youth and families in our surrounding communities. The organization’s mission is to reclaim high risk youth and create a safe and secure environment.  To reduce recidivism, teach pro-social skills, values and behavior.  Instill self-discipline, responsibility and accountability.  New Beginnings Community Development Center, Inc. is to enrich the lives of youth and their families to educate and enable them to attain their full potential in life.  To empower youth and families, socially, intellectually, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and academically

Welcome to the City:
In March of 2008, New Beginnings was selected to operate the Pleasant City Beacon Center, the first Beacon Center in Palm Beach County,  located in the heart of West Palm Beach. New Beginnings was committed to deliver top-notch, comprehensive youth and family development opportunities and community services to the residents of pleasant city, while providing leadership and a positive vision to the people of the community. To build and collaborate with the School District, Multicultural center, Prosperity center, HIPPY Program and other community agencies for the betterment of the youth and families.

Beacon Program Enhancements:
Youth Development Afterschool program provides youth (elementary/teens) with opportunity to spend time in structured and engaging activities in a safe, nurturing environment. We enhance youth skills through academic, cultural, recreational, social and leadership programming. Our program enhancements;  Junior Achievement, Champs, 21St Century Learning center, Y-Girls,  Center for Creative Education, Palm Beach Zoo, Science Museum, Kravis Center, Youth speak out(Chit chat times) as well many other asset building youth activities. In Addition, our staff teaches; Time to enrich, Power Skills, and Spark recreation, and provide daily homework assistance/completion.

Parent/Family involvement program provides activities and educational opportunities and support to parents and caregivers. The Beacon center partners with Extended Hands and Quantum Foundation for our parenting workshops called the Parent Project. This is an entirely new parent training model for working with high-risk families and communities. The Parent Project is designed to revive parent’s desire, teach new skills, and provide the practical and emotional support they need to change destructive adolescent behavior. In addition, we host the following activities ; Family nights, Black history celebration, Holiday performing arts program, family talent showcase, fall festival, youth & family day, and family picnics.

Community Building/Collaborations empower parents and residents to develop skill sets to be productive community and family members. Through partnerships, linkages and collaborations we enhance the lives of residents with Health Mothers/Healthy Babies, WPB Multicultural Center, United Way, Center for family services, Hope Project, American Heart/Stroke association, Area Agency on Aging and Experience works, plus many more. In addition, we host the following events annually; Project Thanksgiving, Health awareness fairs(Pink/Red Days), Back to School Bash, Family Empowerment Day, Jazz in the City, Winter performing Arts, Jazz in the City and Shoe-Tique .
