Pahokee Beacon Center
Connecting People to Resources

“Connecting People to Resources” - The Pahokee Beacon Center is an established community hub where youth, parents and neighbors have access to services, resources and asset building activities that promote and foster healthy, resilient children and families.

“Parent Capacity and Skill Building” – Our center provides Parent/Child and Family Strengthening activities to support the challenge parents face with spending quality time with their kids. We know that the thing children want the most is YOU.  We provide tools to enhance parent/child relationships with age appropriate, fun, learning activities parents can do with their children. Our Family Resource Center provides access to family activities - games, sports, crafts, music, cooking, literacy and more. Find parenting tips, articles on child development and a variety of new age-appropriate child activities each month. Activities are also offered at three (3) convenient locations within the community - RCMA Child Development Center, Bright Ideas Early Learning Center and O.S.A.Y. Child Development Center.

“Parent Education and Capacity Building” - We offer a comprehensive Family Literacy Program. The goal of the program is to enhance literacy within families and improve parents’ abilities to be the primary teachers of their children by offering parent support and education services.  We also offer monthly workshops on Health/Wellness and Financial Fitness topics.  Weekly Parent Strengthening courses, GED, Computers and ESOL classes are offered throughout the year. Parents participate in our “Lunch & Learn” programs- workshops, seminars and discussion groups- to talk about topics of interest to them. ”Lunch and Learn” helps parents understand how children grow & learn, their rights and responsibilities in schools, and discover strategies to help their children succeed in school. The family literacy program also provides volunteer opportunities through our Parent Teacher Club that help to develop our parents’ leadership capacity.

“Community Services and Support”- The Pahokee Beacon Center partners with its families to improve accessibility to various community services and support agencies.  We understand the importance of providing support to the entire family unit. We provide assistance with access to the Healthy Beginnings Program, Florida ACCESS program, Parent Child Center, Family Central, Prosperity Center, Florida SHARE program and various other community services that support the needs of our local families.

“Quality After-school Care” – The Pahokee Youth Enrichment Academy provides quality after school care to families children in grades K-5th.  The PYEA serves 140 students daily and satisfies the dual needs of Homework Help and Afterschool Care. Our PYEA after school and summer program incorporates homework support, academic enrichment, recreational clubs, character development and community service into the daily schedule.
