Program Offered:
The MODEL Program’s (Mentors Opening Doors Enriching Lives) goal is to provide mentors for youth ages 4-15 who have an incarcerated parent. Mentors will provide at least one hour/week of volunteer support for their assigned child for one year. MODEL will seek to ameliorate the adverse consequences of parental incarceration for children, including disruption of the parent-child relationship as well as economic, social & emotional burdens.

Population Served:
Youth served are ages 4-15 who have a parent incarcerated in prison. Service area includes North County, Central County & South County.

Mentor Responsibilities:
Mentors are volunteers at least 21 years of age. They commit to a minimum of one hour per week for one year, subject to background screening. They receive 8 hours of training, 3 hours of program orientation. The meetings with their assigned youth are flexible and can include homework help, shopping, museum visits, etc.

Time Commitment:
Minimum of one hour/week for one year.
