Program Offered:
The Family Mentoring Program is a voluntary program for families with school age children in the Lantana and Lake Worth area that feel overwhelmed and want to ensure that their children do their best in school and life. Through positive role model interaction, children and caregivers develop stronger communication skills and problem solving skills  A volunteer mentor spends time once a week for six months with the entire family to talk and listen to the family members. Volunteer mentors may also spend time having fun together and attending program events. Mentors assist parents with questions regarding their child's education, development and safety.
 
Population Served:
Families with children aged 5–12 living in the Lake Worth and Lantana School District area.

Mentor Responsibilities:
Develop a supportive friendship while modeling appropriate interaction and communication skills. Encourage and support positive family interaction, take part in community volunteer experiences with the family.  The minimum age for mentors is 21. Mentors will have ongoing support and training and will maintain regular contact with Volunteer Coordinator by attending Networking Sessions. Mentors will complete an initial orientation session and application process before being matched with a family. Individual volunteer mentors as well as couples are welcome.

Time Commitment:
Meeting times are flexible and are determined by the family and volunteer mentor. Mentors and families agree to maintain a relationship for six months. Volunteer mentors are given supplies and books to work with the families needs and help the family to accomplish goals.
