Program Offered:
Take Stock in Children is a school based mentoring program that provides a unique set of resources including mentors, scholarships, long-term support, student advocacy, and a guaranteed educational opportunity.  The program focuses on early intervention and long-term support. Students are selected at the 6th, 7th or 9th grade level and remain in the program until high school graduation.  They continue to be monitored throughout post-secondary education.

We believe that a willing child can succeed with the help of passionate and caring people, encouragement and challenge, hard work, and accountability.  Our goal is to develop confidence, competence, pride, a sense of belonging, and hope in each student.

The program goals are:
a. To enhance youth access to positive adult support.
b. Students are successful in school.
c. Parents are involved and supportive of their child’s educational goals.

Population Served:
Students are selected through an application process.  All students must meet the financial requirements for Free/Reduced lunch when placed in the program.   Students are selected at the 6th, 7th or 9th grade level at specific schools throughout Palm Beach County.  Take Stock works with the public schools throughout Palm Beach County that have a large number of students on free or reduced lunch.

Mentor Responsibilities:
Volunteer mentors must be a minimum of 21 years of age and able to meet with the student during school hours.  All mentors attend a two-hour orientation/training and pass a background screening prior being matched with a student.   Mentors share life and professional experiences, along with encouragement and friendship to the mentee.  They become an additional positive adult in the child’s life.  Take Stock also sponsors optional activities throughout the year for the mentor and mentee to meet outside of the school environment.

Time Commitment:
All mentors are asked to commit to meeting with their student for a minimum of one-half hour a week throughout the academic school year.  Mentors will have the opportunity to recommit to mentor their student the following school year.
