Program Offered:
The ‘Get Real’ Mentoring Program is a group mentoring program provided to middle school girls by the Florida Girl Scout Councils. "Get Real" is funded through the Governor's Mentoring Initiative. The program is delivered on-site at select Palm Beach County schools; the mentoring occurs in group and one-to-one mentoring sessions. A component of this program includes promoting sexual abstinence for teens and its curriculum is approved by the Florida Department of Education.

Population Served:
Middle school girls ages 11 to 14

Mentor Responsibilities:
Mentors must be at least 18 years of age. An initial training session is required for all mentors prior to acceptance into the program. Mentors must be available to travel to selected school sites. Mentors and girls are matched after profiles are submitted. Program does not involve meeting with girls outside of the scheduled program dates and times.

Time Commitment:
The curriculum runs a total of 30 weeks, for one hour per week. Mentors and girls are expected to commit to the relationship for 30 weeks.
