Economic Well-Being
In today’s society, child well-being outcomes are often tied to family incomes. Children who grow up in poverty are less likely to receive the care necessary to maintain their physical health, are more likely to lag behind their peers when they enter kindergarten, and are more likely to drop out of school.
A variety of indicators provide clues to the economic well-being of children and families, including the number of children with family incomes at or below the poverty line, the number receiving free and reduced lunch, and the numbers receiving welfare and food stamps.
