About the Conference

THE GOAL:

The purpose of this conference is to provide a clear understanding of what evidence-based means and the skills that program providers can use every day to improve their chances of achieving positive outcomes for their communities.  Most importantly, this conference takes the concept of evidence-based programming to a new and exciting level.  It goes beyond programs and practices – it’s about accountability for results, resources and costs.  National experts will describe the implications – on a national level – about impact on policy, return on investment, and cost benefits.

THE PURPOSE:

Provide scientific information on:

  • The importance of implementing evidence-based programs;
  • The most effective substance abuse, mental health, violence prevention, teen pregnancy, mentoring, youth development and early childhood programs and services.
  • The most widely accepted national definitions and criteria for evidence-based programming.
  • National trends and direction of government at the local, state and national levels.

Initiate dialogue regarding:

  • The importance of evaluating locally developed programs
  • Issues and concerns among experts regarding implementing non-evidence-based programs
  • What to consider when no evidence-based programs meet your targeted outcomes.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Participants will include decision- and policy-makers at the local, state and national levels, community service providers, advocates and heads of organizations and agencies responsible for prevention programs and services funding, advocacy and operations in the areas of early childhood, youth development, juvenile justice, substance abuse, mental health, teen pregnancy, and violence prevention.
