Brain Development of Children
Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County
This training will provide general information on brain development in the first 5 years of life, including the neuroscience of how the brain develops and its various functions, as well as the influence of brain growth on all other aspects of a child's development. The importance of a child's environment and caregiving relationship as shapers of the brain, and the impact of trauma on the developing brain will also be addressed. Ways in which practitioners can use this information when working with young children and their families will be discussed.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Name three structures of the brain, and explain their function and impact on other areas of development
- Identify two ways in which a child’s environment and relationship with their caregiver effects the development of their brain
- List two ways in which trauma influences the developing brain and describe three activities that they can do with or encourage parents to do with children to enhance brain development.
