Dr. Lisa Williams-Taylor, CEO of Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, was honored Thursday with the Women’s Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 Giraffe Award in Government. The award celebrates women who have “stuck their necks out” by taking risks and applying initiative, dedication and perseverance, as well as making a difference for women in the workplace and in the community.
The award is granted to women in four categories including business, government, nonprofit and young professional.
“I am honored to receive such a recognition and feel so privileged to be nominated with so many outstanding and remarkable women who dedicate their lives and their work to our very special community,” Dr. Williams-Taylor said Thursday. “Without the persistence of strong women throughout my life, I likely wouldn’t be standing here in front of you today.”
Dr. Williams-Taylor stepped into her role as CEO in February 2015 with the high bar of following a longtime, well-known and widely respected leader of Children’s Services Council.
Dr. Williams-Taylor made a successful leadership transition by preserving the best of the organization’s strengths and following her own inner compass to set new paths. She opened CSC to hearing more community voices, listening in meetings and aggressively seeking out new audiences to better understand residents’ needs and interests. The response has been improved relationships with our partners and service providers. With her strong sense of self-awareness, she empowered her leadership team and all staff to bring their passion and energy to improving our work.
Dr. Williams-Taylor sticks her neck out every day as a strong, energetic government leader. In an era of distrust in government and disillusionment with government’s role in helping the least fortunate, she keeps her focus – and that of Children’s Services Council – on effective collaboration to serve the community and attain common goals. She is fair, honest and open, and her extraordinary personal integrity and drive instill confidence in all those she works with to make life better for others.
Dr. Williams-Taylor, who has a Ph.D. in criminal justice from City University in New York, has done all this while, along with her husband, raising a 10-year-old son.
Congratulations Dr. Williams-Taylor!
