The Healthy Start Healthy Families Nurses Program provides services and referrals to pregnant women, newborns and their families via visits in their homes and by telephone. A Registered Nurse is available on a daily basis to receive phone calls from the public. This phone triage service is meant to help women get answers to questions related to pregnancy, the postpartum period and infant care topics. Some of the topics and questions that the Nurse of the Day might handle, would include:

• Assistance accessing prenatal care and insurance
• Help locating Childbirth, Parenting and Smoking Cessation Programs
• Answers to questions about pregnancy, postpartum recovery and newborn care
• Support for Breastfeeding and referral to community lactation programs
• Information regarding the community immunization program
• Assistance with locating Family Planning Services
• Help scheduling the nurse for services
