Council fuels great ideas with $850,000+ in grants to 20 local nonprofits

For the third year, Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County sought out unique, creative, forward-thinking solutions that benefit the children and families in our community.

The result? Twenty great ideas funded with more than $850,000.

Some of this year’s Great Ideas Initiative recipients include: a robotics program at the Milagro Center in partnership with Florida Atlantic University’s TechGarage; a mindfulness club for high school students; career planning for youth aging out of foster care; a bicycle refurbishment and bike safety program for middle school students; and so much more.

The Great Ideas Initiative, started by the Council in 2016, provides grants to nonprofits with proposals that enhance the lives of Palm Beach County’s children. Since 2016, the Council has invested more than $2 million in 66 great ideas.

This year, the Council increased the award ceiling from $25,000 to $50,000 (which includes an additional 15 percent to each grant for administrative costs). To qualify, nonprofits could not have received a Great Ideas grant before, must be in good standing with the IRS and have an annual operating budget of less than $1 million.

The council received a total of 33 eligible submissions. Those nonprofits chosen to receive grants demonstrated the desire to work in partnership with local communities and families to achieve mutually agreed upon goals, using creativity and innovation.

“For the third year in a row, we are thrilled to go beyond our traditional funding avenues to bolster undiscovered gems in our community that are making a difference in Palm Beach County,” says Council CEO Lisa Williams-Taylor. “These nonprofits are creative, outside-the-box thinkers doing amazing work to enhance children’s lives.”
